Portrait Masks

Beckie Kravetz began her sculpture career as a theatrical mask maker. Years of working with actors inspired her to explore the mask’s inner surface; the point of transformation between actor and character. Early works using painting and text on the inside of the sculpted face evolved into masks containing three-dimensional tableaus, a unique style of portraiture that Beckie calls the Portrait Mask.  The first works in this series depicted literary and theatrical characters, including the widely exhibited Sculpted Arias portraits of opera characters.  The series has now expanded to included commissioned contemporary portraits, and portraits of historical figures. Commissions are welcome.
